Hammer Beam: rafters supported by curved braces from the walls.

Mortice Tenon: any join consisting of a projection on the end of one timber and a corresponding slot on the other.

Knee Brace: a short, diagonal timber placed between the horizontal and vertical members of the frame to make them rigid.

Joinery: the shaping of timbers where thay mate to fasten or lock them.

Scarf Joint: joining of two timbers to make one longer beam.

Through Mortice or Through Tenon: a mortice or tenon that goes completely through a timber.
